scenario task 1 LO1

SCENARIO

You have been commissioned by a record company to write a report about the purposes of music videos. This will involve building on and extending the knowledge gained in group activities and independent learning.

TASK 1or 4

Using your class notes on the music videos you have watched, and findings gained from your own research, you will need to write a report (minimum 300 words) demonstrating your awareness of the music video format. Your report must be original printed off  with links to the videos you use as examples.  Remember you will need to make reference to relevant terminology and at least one example for each purpose to support your point.  Your report should explain in detail  the following purposes of music videos and your examples of videos and music artists , explaining in detail the reason for their selection and relevant information :

Promotion of a particular song  ( explain how a single is released and promoted)

Promotion of the artist’s album ( explain how an album is promoted, and find and explain an example where the video directly promotes the album)

           Promotion of a new artist

Promotion of an artist’s change in musical direction or image

Promotion of and synergy with another media product (film , television programme  etc.)

Increasing the income for the record company. In this case find an example of an artist who owns the record label and therefore benefits directly.

Increasing the range of media artist is active in (television, artist’s website , DVD release , social networking  sites etc. ) Find an example of an artist who uses a range of digital media and networking, and explain how a specific music video fits into this use of media.

You should research and analyse a range of different artists and record labels, such as major labels, independent record companies and artists who release their products with no industry support.

techniques used in music videos LO2 task 4

Techniques of music videos – define the meaning and give examples from music videos

Cutting to the beat

Cutting to the beat involves music and a music video. When you watch a music video, you can notice the scene cuts to another scene on a certain lyric. When you watch the video, you can actually take the lyrics and break It in to pieces/scenes where the music cuts to another shot.

Effects

Any sort of sound effect or special effects used in the music video.

Miming and lip syncing

is a technical term for matching lip movements with pre-recorded sung or spoken vocals that the listeners hear through speakers, either through PA system speakers in a "live" performance or television or cinema speakers in the case of a lip-synced TV show or film performance.

Mime is simply meaning the artist is using a special technique.

Playback and lip sync

a term that refers to when (during a performance) a musical group plays a prerecorded track and lip-synchs on stage

The new rock group used playback instead of actually singing/performing the song on stage.

Multi-mage

Multi-mage is a technique where multiple videos are on one screen. This generally shows more than one thing going on and the editing is critical with this technique.

Camera movements

Just like in any other form of video media, there will always be certain camera movements that are used for different reasons; an establishing shot will generally set the scene at the beginning; a long shot will normally set out the location of a closer scene, so the audience have a better understanding of the atmosphere;

Camera angles

Just like movements, camera angles make a huge impact on the meaning and style of the music video. Wherever a camera is placed can show the power of the artist/characters. Or sometimes it can show an exact location from where we should be seeing it. By choosing different angles, the viewers have a different view of the action, which makes it more interesting and everybody will have their own way of watching it.

Chorma key

Chroma Key effects are when music videos are shot in front of a green screen. This means that a block colour is put behind the artist and is replaced by another picture/video. Sometimes the quality doesn't always look as good if the background is of a specific location but they are sometimes used for upbeat dance songs.

Now add this to your blogger with music videos for each category mentioned above.
